More Than a Donkey

HeeHaw's death has become about something much bigger than one heartbreaking loss.

For years, families across America have lost beloved pets and animals during encounters with law enforcement—often in circumstances where people are left wondering whether better training, preparation or a different response could have saved a life.

More Than a Donkey

HeeHaw's death has become about something much bigger than one heartbreaking loss.

For years, families across America have lost beloved pets and animals during encounters with law enforcement—often in circumstances where people are left wondering whether better training, preparation or a different response could have saved a life.

For many, HeeHaw was the last straw. Enough is enough.

His death has ignited a growing call for HeeHaw's Law—an effort to push for better animal encounter training, clearer protocols, greater accountability, and safer alternatives whenever possible.

HeeHaw cannot be brought back. But his story can become a catalyst for change that protects countless animals in the future.

This is bigger than one donkey.

This is about making sure HeeHaw isn't just another number. 💛

HeeHaw's Story

HeeHaw was so much more than a little donkey standing in a pasture.

He was family.

Bottle-raised from the time he was young, HeeHaw grew up surrounded by people, affection and trust. He was gentle, curious and deeply loved. He participated in petting zoos, brought smiles to the people who met him, and shared an extraordinary bond with his owner, Hannah Israel.

He knew Hannah’s voice. He trusted her. He knew he was home.

In the early morning hours of August 30, 2026, that life ended suddenly when HeeHaw was shot and killed by a Cedartown police officer during a search for a missing child.

He was only one year old.

According to the officer’s written report, HeeHaw ran toward members of the search team and was perceived as a threat. Hannah has strongly disputed the characterization of HeeHaw as aggressive, describing a bottle-raised animal who loved people and had never given her reason to believe he would intentionally hurt anyone.

These differing accounts have left a grieving family—and people around the world who have come to love HeeHaw through his story—asking for answers.

What happened in that pasture deserves to be fully understood.

Justice for HeeHaw. 💛

In loving memory of HeeHaw

Remember Him This Way

Before the headlines, before the outrage and before the calls for justice, there was a little donkey simply living his life.

HeeHaw was playful, trusting, curious and loved beyond measure.

These photographs and videos offer glimpses of the HeeHaw his family knew—the gentle little soul behind the story that has touched so many hearts.

They remind us that HeeHaw’s story is not only about the way his life ended. It is also about the love, happiness and beautiful memories he left behind.

This is the HeeHaw we want the world to remember.💛

HeeHaw met the world with trust and innocence—and that is how he should be remembered.

HeeHaw’s death has left Hannah—and thousands who have heard his story—with serious unanswered questions.

His Life Mattered

HeeHaw didn't know that his name would someday be known by thousands of people.

He didn't know there would be signs bearing his name, people gathering on his behalf, songs written for him, or strangers shedding tears over a little donkey they had never met.

He was simply living his life.

And perhaps that is one of the most important reasons his story matters.

An animal does not have to be famous for his life to have value.

HeeHaw mattered before the world knew his name.

He mattered because he was alive.

He mattered because he was loved.

And he matters still.💛

A Call for Truth and Accountability

The Justice for HeeHaw movement is not about hatred.

It is not about threats, harassment or retaliation.

It is about truth. Transparency. Accountability. And change.

There are differing accounts of what occurred in HeeHaw’s pasture that night. That is precisely why the complete evidence surrounding what happened matters.

Hannah Israel is represented by attorney Chris McCormick. Together, they are seeking the available body-camera footage, drone recording and other records connected to the incident. At the time of this writing, the complete recordings have not been made public.

Those standing for HeeHaw are asking that the facts be fully examined and that all available original, complete and unedited footage be preserved and lawfully released through the appropriate legal and investigative process.

We also hope HeeHaw’s story begins a larger conversation about training and protocols for law-enforcement encounters with domestic and farm animals.

Because accountability isn’t only about looking backward.

It is also about preventing the next tragedy.

If the footage supports the officer’s account, let it provide that clarity. If it raises additional questions, HeeHaw’s family and the public deserve those answers.

Release the footage. Let the evidence speak.

The Vision for HeeHaw’s Law

What if one little donkey’s story could help protect another animal someday?

The loss of HeeHaw has inspired calls for meaningful change—including better animal-awareness training, greater transparency and clearer protocols for law-enforcement officers who encounter livestock, pets and other domestic animals while performing their duties.

The loss of HeeHaw has inspired calls for meaningful change—including better animal-awareness training, greater transparency and clearer protocols for law-enforcement officers who encounter livestock, pets and other domestic animals while performing their duties.

His story has also become part of a much larger national conversation. A widely cited estimate attributed to the United States Department of Justice suggests that approximately 10,000 pet dogs are shot and killed by law-enforcement officers each year. Because there is no comprehensive national system tracking these incidents, the true number remains unknown.

For many people, what happened to HeeHaw has become the last straw—a moment to stand together peacefully and say, “Enough is enough.”

The vision behind HeeHaw’s Law is not rooted in hatred, threats or retaliation. It is rooted in the belief that better preparation, animal-awareness training, de-escalation and safer response procedures could prevent another family from experiencing a loss like this.

The details of any future legislation must be developed through the appropriate legal and legislative process, but the principle behind HeeHaw’s Law is simple:

When there is a safe and reasonable alternative, animals deserve the opportunity for that alternative to be used.

HeeHaw cannot be brought home. But perhaps something created in his name can help another animal make it home safely.

That would be a legacy worthy of him.

An Original Song for HeeHaw

Written and performed by Emily Stone Harris

Sometimes words alone are not enough to express the grief we feel—or the hope that something meaningful can rise from it.

I wrote this song to honor HeeHaw’s life, the love he shared with Hannah and the movement for truth, accountability and change that has grown in his name.

May his story continue to reach hearts, inspire compassion and remind the world that his life mattered.

Full original song coming soon.

Carry His Story With You 💛

One of the most powerful ways we can honor HeeHaw is simply to keep his name and his story alive.

After several people requested my artwork on T-shirts and other items, I created a small collection featuring my original HeeHaw artwork for those who would like something tangible to remember him by—and to help carry his message beyond this page.

My online shop also features other pieces of my original artwork inspired by animals, remembrance, advocacy, healing, and causes close to my heart.

I have been personally involved in charitable work for more than 25 years, helping animals and people in need. That work continues today through animal rescues and emergencies, veterinary care, food and essential household needs, disaster assistance, and other urgent situations.

Fourthwall produces, fulfills, and ships every item, and I receive a portion of each sale. Twenty-five percent of my net proceeds from every Justice for HeeHaw T-shirt will be donated directly to Hannah’s official GoFundMe. The remaining proceeds help support my independent artwork, advocacy, content creation, website, and the time, tools, services, and assistance involved in continuing this work.

If you would prefer for your entire contribution to go directly to Hannah, her official GoFundMe is also linked here on my website, and I will continue sharing and promoting it.

Whether you wear his name, share his story, pray, or simply help keep his memory visible, every form of support matters.

Wear his name. Tell his story. Help make his legacy create change. 💛

Purchase a Justice for HeeHaw T-shirt and help support his family. 25% of all T-shirt sales will be donated to the official GoFundMe.
